Show-Training Methods

Show-training is very specific. You need to create the illusion of the perfect body. Yes I said illusion because what we do is we use our strong points to cover up our weakness. For example we pump our lats up to make our waist look smaller.

When you are doing a show proportion is extremely important. It can mean the difference in winning and losing. Have your personal trainer use a tape measure to make sure. The judges won't measure you but they usually have a pretty good eye.

A big missconseption about body building is all you have to do is be big and lean. The average person don't know about getting rid of water or making sure you have on just the right amount of oil.

My biggest nightmare is someone who has never compeated comes to me and says there is a show in six weeks can you train me for it? They say this because the look pretty good, but for those of you who have compeated knows pretty good is not good enough

I let them know that show-training is not the same as regular training.

I closley evaluate them and I give them my honest opinion which usually is lets train for the next show. They often look at me like I lost my mind. After I explain why they usually understand.

Every now and then I get someone who insists on doing this show so I set up an extreamly tough training schedual (tougher then normal) to try and get them ready.

When you are training for a show you want to try and be within 15lbs of your competing weight so when you lean down you can minimize the muscle loss. When ever you lose weight there will be some muscle loss the question is how much.

I know some people who train themselves and some of them do ok but the ones who have an experienced personal trainer usually excel.

Show-training takes a lot of experience don't cheat yourself. Let someone who has been there get you there.
